Prostituted girls, most of them aged 15 to18 years of age, are found in the Svay Pak red-light district of Cambodia. Many girls are much younger. Most of them are smuggled in from Vietnam and all are bound by contracts, which last from six months to over a year. Svay Pak has the largest number of prostituted Vietnamese girls. nofficial estimates say that there are as many as 15,000 prostituted persons in Phnom Penh, and that up to 35% of them have been smuggled into Cambodia from China or Vietman, mostly from the southwestern provinces of Vietnam (Long An, An Giang, Song Be, Kien Giang, Dong Thap, Can Tho and Ho Chi Minh City). Brothel owners pay traffickers from US$350 to $450 (8,750 to 11,250 baht) for each attractive Vietnamese virgin 16 years or younger. Non-virgins and those considered less beautiful are sold from $150 to $170 each (3,750 to 4,250 baht). Girls bound by contacts to a brother owner have their debt to the brothel owner subtracted from the number of customers serviced. It may take from six months to a year or more to work off this debt. The fees that have been paid to their families, trafficking agents, and border guards compound the total debt. Once all debts are paid off, the prostituted person makes from $2 to $3 [50 to 75 baht] per customer, this is after the brother owner has taken their own cut. Child Prostitution in Cambodia

Virgins, who have been sold to brothels by trafficking agents, are confined to the brothel or a hotel room until the first client comes. Due to the belief that sex with a virgin has rejuvenating properties, her first client is charged an expensive amount. Advertised as “special commodities,” virgins are also attractive in that they are less likely to have AIDS or other sexually transmitted diseases. The customer pays from $300 to $400 (7,500 to 10,000 baht) to have sex with her for one week in a local hotel chosen by the brothel owner. It sickens me that young women are so mistreated in the less rich parts of the world. Good show for shining a spotlight on this horrible slavery.

Why not start factories out there? Obviously (mattel toys specifically) wants cheap labor. Even 5 dollars an hour would drastically improve these peoples lives. The root of the problem is two things poverty and perverts. Kill the perverts, and help build their economy. While prostitution and maltreatment of people will never fully end we should, as a wealthy country, try spread the wealth.

This is not the west. It is a different culture. There is no social security. I many SE Asian cultures when you are old and cannot work then you hope that your children can support you, and their children work from an earlier age than in the west. Western ideas on when a child should start work are simply inappropriate here. From a parent’s viewpoint, a daughter has a short working life before she starts her own family. We think that we are so clever in the west with our holier than thou attitudes and our investigative journalists and NGO’s who chase these poor girls out of the factories (yes, there are factories here), and revile the companies who employ such underage labor. In reality these idiots are driving these girls INTO prostitution as they prevent the girls from working in the factories to support their families. Who was it who told the west that their way was better and should be imposed on other cultures, at any cost, and never mind the destruction it causes? Lord forgive them, for they know not what they do.

I am doing a school project on the this global issue. It is making me SICK!!! physically and emotionally!
The united states and western Europe are responsible for providing constant stream of sick men who think nothing of having sex with a FIVE year old child. Not just that they don’t think it’s wrong, they excuse their own sick behavior by saying that they are doing them( the children) a favor! They are feeding the child’s family. Well, I can think on a thousand OTHER ways you sick people can help. Donate money, buy food are just two simple examples. Why children? How can you sleep at night knowing what you have done to a child? We should push for harsh punishment and make sure it is enforced! Instead of learning to play an instrument, a child s learning to perform “yum yum” (oral sex)
As a mother of young children this subject has kept me up at night. I am going to find a way that we can all do something about it. Spread the word!!!!!
